Oli essenziali doTERRA estratti naturalmente

Fundamental

Essential oils can be used for different kinds of applications; either for the physical, mental or emotional well being. They can be used as a single oil or as a blend of several oils, according to the experience of the users and the result they are trying to accomplish.

Usually, essential oils can be used in three ways: aromatically, topically or internally.

The use of essential oils can be quite simple, but at the same time crucial due to their potency. Seeking the support of someone with personal experience and a good knowledge of their proprieties can guarantee a safer and more pleasant introduction for someone that is brand new to the practice.

Traditionally, certain essential oil application methods have been preferred or used exclusively. However, as the research surrounding essential oils continues to develop, a greater understanding of application methods is now understood.

All application methods are safe when used appropriately, including aromatic, topical, and internal methods. One or multiple application methods can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications.

Essential oils are normally safe to be used as per the product instructions, and rarely present side effects.

Essential oils need to be used with some precautions: keep them away from nose cavities, eyes and hear ducts. In case of skin sensitivity during topical application, dilute immediately with a carrier oil (not with water as it will enhance the discomfort instead of dispelling the effects).

If you are pregnant or taking any medications, always consult your doctor before using essential oils.

Most importantly, always be sure to use pure and therapeutic grade essential oils, and to follow the instructions on the label.

Topical application is one of the ways you can experience the benefits of dōTERRA® essential oils. This form of application is unique because it allows for localized effects in the area of the application in addition to providing whole body support.

Additionally, you can use essential oils topically when you want an easy way to target specific areas on your body.

When you use essential oils topically, there are some essential safety tips:

+ Citrus oils contain a unique category of photosensitive compounds called furocoumarins, so it is important to avoid exposure to sunlight, sunlamps, or other sources of UV light for up to 12-24 hours after topical application of these oils.

+ More is not always better! Essential oils are very potent, so a little goes a long way. Start with 1–2 drops and then increase the dosage as necessary.

+ Dilute, dilute, dilute! Dilution in no way diminishes the efficacy of essential oils and offers many benefits that can enhance your application experience.

+ Conduct a simple sensitivity test when trying a new oil by applying a small amount of essential oil to an inconspicuous area. Check the spot each hour for several hours to ensure no sensitivity has occurred.

For a topical use of essential oils you can for example:

  • Add a few drops of oil to a warm bath (I use Magnesium flakes or Epsom salt)
  • Make a hot or cold compress by soaking a towel or cloth in water, adding essential oils, and then applying to the desired area
  • Add oil to a lotion or moisturizer and then apply to the skin (I use doTERRA Spa body lotion or Fractionated Coconut Oil).
  • Add few drops of essential oil with water in a spray glass bottle and use it as refreshing skin spray lotion.

Aromatic

Aromatic use of essential oils, it’s usually the preferred method to experience a more gentle way to use them, especially with kids, and at the same time to prolong the exposure and then the benefits.

There are many acceptable ways to use essential oils for their aromatic properties. One method is to diffuse the oil into the air. Not only does diffusion make the oil accessible to the body, but research indicates that there are also air purification benefits when
diffusing oils.

When diffusing oils, use of cold air or hydro-diffusion is best because burning or heating essential oils can alter their delicate chemistry. If a diffuser is not available, simply dropping essential oils into the palm of the hand and then cupping around
the nose and breathing deeply is a convenient method for using essential oils at any time, in any situation.

Although there are many ways that essential oils can be applied, it has been found that repeated daily exposure to the aroma of essential oils provides unique and significant support to healthy function of the body and mind.

The benefits of aroma extend far beyond just emotional regulation. In addition to influencing the limbic region of the brain, olfactory centers are also intricately linked with the hypothalamus, an area of the brain more familiarly nicknamed the “visceral control center” because it controls physiologic functions throughout the body.

The hypothalamus exerts its powerful influence by interacting directly with the pituitary gland, or “master gland,” a small gland located in the brain. The pituitary gland secretes hormones involved in the regulation of blood pressure, hunger and thirst signals, thyroid function, sleep cycles, production of sexual hormones, and memory, among other things. Because of the direct link of the olfactory system to this area of the brain, aroma is capable of interacting directly with the hypothalamus, influencing neurochemistry throughout the body, and, in turn, potentiating powerful health outcomes.

If you don’t have a diffuser available to you, you can:

  • Inhale directly from the open bottle Place a drop in your palm, rub the palms together, and inhale.
  • Drip 2–3 drops onto the floor of the hot shower, away from the water path, and breathe in.
  • Add a couple of drops to pillows and bed linens.
  • Use diffusing jewellery (with felt pad or with lava stones).

Internally and Orally

When it comes to safely using essential oils internally, there is a lot to consider. Most importantly, we must remember that not all essential oils are created equal,  and each essential oil has its own chemical makeup, its own set of benefits, and reacts with the body in its own way.

In addition, essential oils are not created equally because harvest, production, and testing can vary from distributor to distributor. This means that while some essential oils are pure and thoroughly tested, others include fillers, preservatives, or impurities that lower the quality of the oil, and make it unsafe for internal use.

Even when the essential oils you are using are graded for therapeutic use, you have to be aware that some essential oils must be used only topically or aromatically, as internal use is armful to you. Always read the instructions on the label for safety and guidelines.

Normally, the essential oils that can be ingested, are classified as food grade, and definitely not for aromatherapy, massage or cosmetic application, as most of the time those kind of essential oils are diluted with filler or are contaminated during the distillation process.

The internal use is great to support your energy at cellular level, or to support a specific need for the digestive, metabolic or immune system.

There are some discrepancy on how to safely use the essential oils internally, and not every one can confidently trust the source where they come from, so I invite you to do your own research and respect your body when you make your own decision.

If you decide to take essential oils internally, you can do so choosing one of the following way:

  • Add 1 or 2 drops of essential oil safe for internal use to a glass of water or warm liquid (i.e. tea, chocolate, warm water, bone broth, etc)
  • Add 1 or 2 drops of essential oils safe for internal use to an empty veggie capsule and fill up with olive oil before taking internally with plenty of water.
  • Add 1 or 2 drops under your tongue or apply to the roof of your soft palate.

Safety and dilution

You may think that diluting essential oils means to reduce their potency and the benefits, or that in order to have a better result you need to use more essential oil.

This is the antithesis of the truth. In fact, when we dilute an essential oil with the right carrier oil, we enhance the topical application as we reduce the volatility of the essential oils and make the topical benefits last longer.

Also, doTERRA essential oils are extremely potent – from 50 to up to 70 times the potency of source they come from – so it is true that Less is More!

Even if it is a rare circumstance (only the 0.006% of over 5 million doTERRA customers had a known reaction to the oils, including even a small itch on the skin), it can happen to have a specific sensitivity to a particular essential oil. For this reason, it is important to know your body and to patch test on our skin before using them topically. Always follow your instinct and personal experience.

Knowing how we react to a particular essential oil, the quantity that is safe for users to use and where to apply them topically, definitely helps to minimise the risks and safely benefit from the use of doTERRA essential oils.
